The Procedure

While undergoing the FUT procedure, your Dermatologist will remove a strip of hair from the donor area of the scalp. The donor area is usually the back of the head which is why FUT is also referred to as ‘strip’ surgery.

Later, the strip is placed under the high-powered microscopes after which the surgical team precisely divides it into tiny grafts of individual follicular units, compromised of one to four hairs. After this, the grafts are placed in a chilled tissue storage solution until the time they are transplanted.

After surgery, the donor area is stitched up by covering it with the surrounding hair. 10-14 days’ post-surgery, the stitches are removed where the donor area heals, forming a linear scar.

With FUT, there is no need to shave the entire head for the transplantation process. Rather, your own hair will be used to cover up the linear scar. Some of the other key advantages of FUT are shorter surgery time and althugh the number of grafts can be taken same as FUE.
